As you are thinking about getting rid of clutter in the New Year, you might suddenly be awash with questions. Sometimes, people get so stuck on the questions and answers that they fail to move forward. I want to assure you that these questions are easy and just serve to help you get decluttered.
As you are looking at your many belongings, ask yourself these questions.
- Will I need it again? If yes, keep it. If maybe or someday, out it goes.
2. Where should I keep it? Put it with like items. Tools with tools. Sewing supplies with sewing. Paperwork with other papers in file cabinet.
3. But what if someone might want it? Great. Give it to them now. Don’t save it for later. You need the space and less clutter.
4. When did I use this last? If you can’t remember, let it go.
If you are still stuck looking at clutter, ask yourself what would happen to you if you got rid of it. Even ask the question out loud. What you will learn from this exercise is that nothing will happen to you if you get rid of something! If for some reason you did find an answer, for example you realize your brother would be made at you for getting rid of it, then you have your answer! Give it to your brother. This exercise really works to help you let go.
Until next time …
