Is your desk piled high with mountains of papers? Clear everything off your desk into a box or neat pile on the floor. Put only the items you need back on your desk.
Use drawer dividers or containers for small loose items – paper clips, staples, coins, etc.

Sort papers into three piles – action items, file and toss. Action items should be kept on your desk for easy retrieval. File remaining papers into labeled and alphabetized hanging folders.
