Hidden in your phone is a great tool
for your monkey mind. Monkey mind is a Buddhist term describing the mind as a
restless creature. Using the timer setting on your clock can really help you
focus. When you are having trouble completing tasks, from sitting down to write
a dreaded report to cleaning up stacks of unfiled papers, set the timer. Work
in 30 minute bursts. Turn off your phone ringer – you can return calls later.
Set the alarm. Just knowing that you only have to work a short time often keeps
you from mentally drifting off. Not having to check the time to see how much
time has passed is also a distraction that is eliminated. At the end of 30
minutes, you may be so involved that you want to finish what you are doing. Or,
you may want to do another task or get up and stretch, before setting the timer
for another 30 minute burst of productivity.
Until next time …
